Downtown Bloomfield Jamaican restaurant receives Facade Grant

03-19-2025

Sandra McCogg, owner of the Tafari Tropics Restaurant, is the latest recipient of a facade improvement grant from the Bloomfield Center Alliance.  The $2,000 subsidy helped the entrepreneur replace a faded and tattered exterior canopy with a  brightly illuminated flat sign, as well as painting the ground floor exterior facade with the colors of the Jamaican flag.  Ms. McCogg was presented her "grant check" by Bloomfield Township Councilwoman and BCA board member Sarah Cruz

This program has been available to downtown business  and property owners for the last ten years and is intended to provide an incentive for the storefront enhancements and property repairs.  These can include (but not limited to): signage, lighting , exterior paint, replacement doors and windows, and property code related repairs.  The grants are made possible with funding from Bloomfield Township and the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program.  Over the last four years, fourteen downtown businesses received grant subsidies totaling $32,755, which in turn has  encouraged over $80,000 in property improvements.
