Non Fiction Book Club: We Wear the Mask: 15 True Stories of Passing in America by Brando Skyhorse and Lisa Page 3rd Tuesday - Jan 16 @ 6:30pm This collection of 15 essays about how people attempt to pass as another race, religion, sexuality or class. and why. The authors come to various conclusions about the nature of the act and its impact on themselves and society as a whole. We begin with Brando Skyhorses struggles passing as a Native American at the insistence of his mother. Lisa Page discusses how her black great-grandmother passed for white in Mississippi to get a college education. Rafia Zakaria's description of the acts of passing required to get through airport security as a Muslim American, while Gabrielle Bellot, writes about passing as a cisgender woman.
