September 2020 - Kolby's Barber Shop was a downtown Bloomfield business that had been serving the area since 2005. That ended when it, along with several other businesses and organizations, suffered a devastating loss as a result of a fire that destroyed their building located at Glenwood Avenue and Washington Street (the same fire that destroyed a beloved flower shop - Roxy Florist). Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, business owner Qorrell Wright was determined to re-open in Bloomfield Center. Thanks to his determination, it is exciting to share that Kolby's Styling Salon is now open at its new downtown location - 595 Bloomfield Avenue!
Q, as he is known by his friends and long time customers, is excited with the new, larger shop and hopeful it will bring back not only many of his loyal clients, but attract new ones as well. The BCA provided a small grant to help Mr. Wright subsidize part of the costs for his new storefront sign (the program is funded by Community Development Block Grants). Considering the immense loss it suffered earlier this year, we are very happy to welcome back this small business to Bloomfield Center!
